Spread the word

How many of us have been affected by cancer? Most people at least know someone who has had it. For me the first experience with it was through my Grandpa Tucker who died of Prostate Cancer. Since then I have known many others who have had cancer and survived. The one story that has truly moved me is that of Ben Towne, a little boy who lost his life way too early. I heard about Ben when he was first diagnosed and they announced it at church. Jeff, Ben’s dad, was a pastor at UPC, and I had heard him preach many times. Kevin worked with Jeff and had also fixed his computer. I read their Caring Bridge page, off and on, through the year, but I started reading it daily after they found out Ben’s cancer had come back. I cried, and still do cry over the posts. Every time I thought “what would I do in the same situation?”, my heart would just ache for them and little Ben. I don’t know what I would do without Payton or Logan, I can’t even imagine what it would be like. I encourage you to go to their website and read Ben’s story: http://bentownefoundation.org/home/ Find out what is being done to find a cure.
Since the Ben Towne Foundation started I have wanted to help, to do something. Did you know that Cancer is the leading cause of death by disease among U.S. children between infancy and age 15? (NCI) We need to bring awareness to this cause, and help find a cure. The Ben Towne foundation is doing amazing work and I encourage you to read their story and do something. You can share Ben’s story , blog about it, donate or raise money, subscribe to their blog or like them on Facebook. You can also go to this site to get more ideas and read stories about what others are doing: http://bentownefoundation.org/come-on-everybody/ I hope you are inspired to do something even if it is just sharing this website. If you need help with a fundraiser I would love to help in any way I can.
We are going to do a bake sale at a garage sale Saturday August 13th at 5702 25th Ave NE Seattle WA 98105. I wanted to find an idea that Payton can help with since I think it is important for her to be compassionate and help people. If you want to help bake cookies or something I would love the help. Even if just one person is inspired and learns something then that is enough. I hope that many of you can find ways to help and spread the word.
